There’s a woman in the Bible who knew exactly what it felt like to live through hard, unfair days.
Her story is found in Luke 18:4–5, and while it’s only a few verses long, it carries a powerful truth for anyone who has ever been tempted to stop praying.
She was a widow—already walking through grief—now facing an unjust legal battle that threatened her future.
By Jewish law, she had the right to ask for provision and protection. But the judge handling her case was uncaring, ungodly, and unqualified. And every time she came to him, he turned her away.
Still… she kept coming back.
The Road to the Courthouse
I imagine her walking that same dusty road each day toward the courthouse. The sun beating down on her shoulders. Her heart still aching from the loss of her husband. Each week, it was getting harder to make ends meet.
People would stare, whisper, and roll their eyes as she passed—again. Some probably muttered, “She should just accept it and move on.”
But she didn’t.
Something in her spirit told her to keep going. She prayed as she walked. With every step, God’s Spirit gave her the strength to take another. She knew this was right. She knew God was speaking to her, “Don’t give up.”
The Day Everything Changed
Day after day, she took her seat in the same corner of the courtroom, ready to make the same request. Until one day, the judge looked up from his desk, saw her—again—and groaned.
But this day was different.
Luke 18:4–5 (NLT) says:
“I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!”
Just like that—her case was closed. Her request was granted. Her life changed.
She walked home that day singing praises to her Heavenly Father. Her future was secure. She had seen God’s goodness and faithfulness firsthand.
Why Jesus Told This Story
Jesus told this parable for one reason—to encourage us to never give up in prayer.
He essentially said, “If an unjust judge can be moved by persistence, how much more will your loving Heavenly Father respond to you?”
I don’t know why some answers take so long. I don’t know why some days the silence feels louder than our prayers.
But I do know this: Jesus says, “Keep praying.”
Matthew 7:7–11 (NLT) says:
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you… If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him.”
God wants you to have a real and close relationship with Him—where you can pour out your heart and then trust His timing.
💭 Reflection
Where are you tempted to give up asking? What would it look like to keep walking, keep knocking, and keep praying in that area?
🙏 Prayer
Lord, thank You for showing me in Your Word that persistence matters. Give me the strength to keep asking, keep believing, and keep trusting—because You are faithful. Amen.
Remember: God sees the bigger picture. His timing is perfect. And when the answer comes, it will be better than you imagined.
So keep walking.
Keep knocking.
Keep praying.
Your Heavenly Father hears you—and He will answer.
Much love,
x Linda
