In Luke 2:36–38 we meet Anna—a faithful, faith-filled woman whose life encourages us to never give up.
Anna’s husband died after only seven years of marriage. She could have retreated in grief, but instead she devoted herself fully to God. Every single day, she went to the temple. The Bible says she served “day and night”—praying, fasting, and worshipping—until she was 84 years old.
Holding on to One Hope
Anna carried one dream in her heart: to see the promised Messiah. That hope kept her going through decades of long days and silent nights.
Then, one extraordinary day, Mary and Joseph entered the temple carrying their baby boy—Jesus.
Anna knew instantly: This is Him. The Saviour. The Redeemer. The One she had prayed for all those years.
God, in His kindness, let Anna see the fulfilment of her prayers and hold the Messiah in her arms.
Your Prayers Are Never Wasted
Anna’s story shows us that:
God hears every prayer you pray.
His answers may take longer than you hope—but they will come at the perfect time.
Your prayers may be part of a much bigger plan than you can see.
Scripture to Hold On To:
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” — James 5:16
Reflection
Is there a prayer you’ve been praying for years without seeing the answer?
What keeps you showing up before God each day?
How does Anna’s faith encourage you to persist in prayer?
Prayer
Lord,
Help me to be faithful like Anna—to keep showing up in prayer,
trusting that You hear me even when the answers seem far away.
Give me patience to wait for Your timing,
and faith to believe that every prayer matters.
Thank You that You are never late, and Your plan is always good.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Much love,
x Linda
