Have you ever had a season where nothing makes sense?
You’ve prayed. You’ve cried. You’ve searched for answers… but they still haven’t come.
Mary’s life reminds us that even when we don’t understand what’s happening, we can still choose to trust God and never give up.
A Young Woman’s World Turned Upside Down
Mary was young, engaged, and full of anticipation—planning her wedding day, laughing with friends, dreaming about the future.
Then came an unexpected visitor: an angel.
Not just any message, but a life-altering one. She was chosen by God to carry His Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:30–38).
Overwhelmed? Absolutely. But God’s grace met her in that moment, and she was able to accept His plan.
She said:
“I am the Lord’s servant… May your word to me be fulfilled.” — Luke 1:38
She didn’t get a detailed plan or a full roadmap. She got grace for the path ahead.
Faith in the Middle of Misunderstanding
Mary’s “yes” to God came with whispers, gossip, and rejection. Even Joseph—her fiancé—struggled to believe her until God spoke to him in a dream (Matthew 1:20).
Mary leaned on God’s grace every single day. She didn’t give up, even though she must have wondered what her future would hold.
She walked the path God set before her—one step at a time.
A Mother at the Cross
Fast-forward thirty-three years.
Mary has seen Jesus grow, witnessed His miracles, and heard His words bring hope to multitudes.
Now she stands at the foot of the cross, watching her Son—the Son of God—suffer. She can’t take away His pain. She can’t stop what’s happening.
Her heart is breaking… but she stays.
Through His agony, Jesus looks down and makes sure she is cared for:
“Dear woman, here is your son.” … “Here is your mother.” — John 19:26–27
Even in her grief, she knows this is part of God’s plan. She doesn’t have all the answers, (she remembers she didn’t have them all either, when she was visited by an angel all those years ago ) but she has learnt to trust the One who does.
Why Mary Didn’t Give Up
Mary didn’t give up because she knew Jesus was faithful.
She had heard His words, seen His power, and experienced His love.
Even in the darkest moments, she trusted that God would turn things for good—even when everything looked like it was falling apart.
When You Feel Like Giving Up
You can trust God when life doesn’t make sense.
When the waiting is long.
When the pain is real.
Be honest with Him about your hurt. Lift your eyes to Him with faith—even through tears. Thank Him that He sees you, loves you, and is working for you.
Lean into worship. Let the Holy Spirit comfort, strengthen, and encourage you.
When the answers don’t come quickly… wait. Trust. Keep holding on.
His grace is enough for today. His power works best in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Like Mary after the resurrection, we too can live every moment aware of the presence and power of the Living God—Christ in us, and us in Him.
You’re not alone.
And you don’t have to give up.
Reflection
Where in your life do you feel like giving up right now?
How does Mary’s example encourage you to trust God’s bigger plan?
What would it look like to keep holding on—one step at a time—this week?
Prayer
Lord,
You see my heart and You know me.
When life doesn’t make sense, help me to trust You like Mary did.
Give me strength to keep holding on, even when I don’t have all the answers.
Thank You for Your grace that is enough for today,
and for Your presence that never leaves me.
I choose to trust Your timing and Your plan.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Much love,
x Linda
