Abigail's Story : Choosing Courage in Crisis
Have you ever felt everything could go terribly wrong unless God came through?
Abigail knew that feeling well. In 1 Samuel 25, we find her facing the unthinkable—David, armed with 400 men, was marching toward her home, ready to destroy her husband Nabal and their entire household.
The cause? Nabal’s foolish insult toward David. The danger was real, the odds impossible.
Courage on a Donkey
Abigail had a choice:
Do nothing and wait for destruction, or
Risk her life to appeal for mercy.
She chose courage.
Saddling her donkey, she rode out to meet David, bringing generous gifts of food and wine. When she reached him, she fell on her face and pleaded for mercy—not just for her husband, but for the innocent lives in her household.
David listened. His anger subsided. And in that moment, the fate of her home shifted from certain death to unexpected mercy.
The Courage to Confront the Unseen
I’ve never had 400 armed men rushing toward me, but I’ve faced unseen enemies—grief, fear, betrayal, and challenges that blindsided me. Life can hit hard and unfairly.
Abigail’s bravery inspires us to rise up in faith, even in impossible situations. She didn’t just react—she acted with wisdom, humility, and faith in God’s mercy.
When the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, we RUN to Jesus, KNEEL before our loving Father, PRAY with trust, and LISTEN for His direction.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” — Psalm 56:3
Encouragement for Today
When tempers rise and chaos swirls, be like Abigail — calm, courageous, and full of grace.
Instead, let God’s wisdom guide your words and actions.
Your peace-filled choices can bring healing, soften hearts, and change outcomes you can’t yet see.
“A gentle answer turns away wrath.” — Proverbs 15:1
💛 Stay steady. Wisdom and grace will always carry you further than fear.
Reflection
Where in your life is God calling you to act with courage?
What “donkey ride” of faith do you need to take today to protect and bless your family?
How can you respond to conflict with wisdom and humility instead of fear?
Prayer
Lord,
Give me the courage of Abigail when the odds are against me.
Help me to rise up in wisdom, act in faith, and trust that You are working for my good.
When fear comes, remind me to run to You, kneel in surrender, pray with confidence, and listen for Your voice.
Thank You for being my protector, restorer, and healer.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Much love,
x Linda
