Do you have a dream that feels impossible — one you’ve prayed for so long that hope has started to fade?
In Genesis 15–18, we meet Sarah and Abraham, a couple who had carried the dream of having a child for decades. Now old in age, they were living with the disappointment of unfulfilled hope. They longed to leave a legacy for future generations, but their arms were still empty.
💡 But God…
From the very beginning, God’s Word has carried creative power. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1) and “by faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command” (Hebrews 11:3). The same Spirit who breathed life into creation is still breathing life into promises that seem impossible, disappointing, or even dead.
God spoke to Abram and Sarai, changing their names to Abraham (“father of a multitude”) and Sarah (“princess”). It was a declaration of the promise before the promise came true. Romans 4:17 says God “calls those things which do not exist as though they did.”
Abraham didn’t hide the new name God gave him — he embraced it. Imagine the laughter of neighbors when an old man introduced himself as “father of multitudes.” But Abraham held on to God’s Word, not the opinions of others.
And then it happened. At the time God had promised, Sarah gave birth to a son. Abraham named him Isaac — which means laughter (Genesis 21:3). The joy of the impossible becoming reality filled their home.
Luke 1:37 reminds us: “For nothing will be impossible with God.”
💭 Reflection
Maybe your dream feels out of reach — healing, provision, a relationship restored, or a breakthrough you’ve prayed for over many years. Sarah’s story reminds us: God’s timing is perfect, and His promises never fail.
Mark 9:23 — “All things are possible to him who believes.”
Mark 10:27 — “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”
Luke 18:27 — “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
🙏 Prayer
Lord, when my hope feels delayed, help me to hold on to Your promises. Breathe fresh life into my dreams and give me the faith to keep believing until the answer comes. Amen.
