Rahab's Story : Grace Beyond Your Past
Do you know God’s grace? Do you know His absolute love and care for you?
In the walls of Jericho lived a woman named Rahab. She was known as a prostitute and a Canaanite—enemies of Israel. Her story is found in Joshua 2 in the Bible.
God loved Rahab… just as He loves you.
Her story is one of extraordinary faith and courage, and one of God’s divine grace.
God’s Love Knows No Boundaries
As the Israelites, led by Joshua, prepared to conquer Jericho, Rahab knew her city—and her home—would be destroyed.
Desperate to protect her family, she hid two Israelite spies on her roof, lied to the king’s men, and pleaded for her family’s lives to be spared:
“Please swear to me by the LORD that you will show kindness to my family… Give me a sure sign that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death.” — Joshua 2:12–13 (NIV)
The spies agreed, telling her to hang a scarlet cord from her window so the Israelite army would know who to protect. That scarlet cord points to Jesus—the blood on the cross that He shed for our deliverance and salvation.
From Outcast to Redeemed
True to their word, when Jericho fell, Rahab and her family were spared. Her courageous decision changed not just her life but her future. She became part of the lineage that led to Jesus Himself.
The book of Hebrews honours her faith:
“By faith Rahab…” — Hebrews 11:31
Rahab’s story is a powerful reminder that no matter your past, God’s grace can transform your life.
Scripture to Hold On To:
“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Reflection
Is there something in your past you believe disqualifies you from God’s love or purpose?
How does Rahab’s story challenge your view of God’s grace?
Who in your life needs to hear that their past doesn’t define their future?
Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for Your grace that covers my past and gives me hope for the future.
Help me to see myself as You see me—redeemed, loved, and called.
Give me courage like Rahab to take steps of faith, even when they are risky or costly.
And may my life point others to Your saving love.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
With love,
x Linda
